When it comes to treating acne, everyone wants that one 'silver bullet' that will solve their acne problems. And depending on your type of acne there may well be one for you.

But while you are searching for it, there are some simple things you should remember to do that could alleviate (if not eliminate) many of your acne problems. That is - if you remember to do them!

Know that an acne pimple is a skin pore that has become clogged and infected with bacteria. As your body attempts to fight off this infection, the ensuing battle results in an unsightly zit! It is in this battleground where we will try to give your body every possible advantage.

Acne can erupt unexpectedly at all ages - 30s, 40s, 50s! Knowing how to treat your particular case may require a dermatologist, but here are some general and effective acne treatments that you should try first.

1 - Keep your facial skin clean - this is one of the most important steps. Be sure to use a mild soap and water or an antiseptic wash.

Be as gentle on your skin as possible since breaking the skin can result in a worse acne breakout and possible even cause scars.

2 - Keep your pillowcase fresh, putting on a clean one every two days or so. This is because oil from your face and hair get transferred onto your pillowcase at night and may over time irritate the acne on your skin.

3 - Daily wash your hair. This is especially important if your hair has oily tendencies. Keeping this oil away from your skin will help clear up the clogged pore condition.

4 - To keep your skin healthy be sure you are keeping a nutritious diet regime. Take a multi-vitamin to ensure all you are getting all the nutrients you need if you are deficient in some areas.

5 - Vitamin A has been shown to strengthen skin tissues and also aid in the prevention of acne.

(Carrots anyone?)

6 - Water helps your body flush waste away and out from your body. Six to Eight glasses every day ought to do it.

7 - Avoid excessive use of makeup - especially the oil based ones. Remember we are trying to unblock and clear your pores of all oil and make it possible for them to 'breath' again.

8 - Use an exfoliating cleanser. This cleaning agent helps to peel back some of the outer surface of the skin and open up the pores. Special pads also help to draw out the excess buildup around your pores.

These eight tips are a good start towards healthy and vibrant facial skin.

If your condition is more severe, be sure to consult with a professional.
